War Thunder, a free-to-play military simulation, appears to have a lot of gearheads who are familiar with classified information. Several players have recently posted classified information online about the US military on multiple occasions. It has resulted in the unfortunate situation that playing the game is now considered to be a red flag during background checks. This is true if you are interested in working for Raytheon, a defense contractor.
The game's sudden risky status was announced on its subreddit. One user posted that his friend was applying to Raytheon's job and needed to undergo a background check. He also provided a list if references as part of the background check. Redditor received a call from the PI asking a series questions about his friend. The usual "would he overthrow government?" questions were asked, as well as "Does his friend play War Thunder?". Thankfully, it is not a strange question.
congratulations to the Warthunder on being the first video game to be classified as a risk on a background check, your community is terrifying and I hope it continues being so pic.twitter.com/f3CqNhnIBH

GamesRadar reports that a week ago, one of the game's participants shared classified information about the F-16 fighter plane in the game's forums. They did it to win an argument. The same user also shared secret documents the next day, as if that weren't enough. The second violation was information regarding the F-15 Strike Eagle. The classified information was deleted, so that nobody can find it.
This game's players are so obsessed with the realisticity of the combat vehicles, it is not surprising that they do this. Someone shared classified documents from the UK regarding the Challenger 2 tank with game developers in 2021. They wanted to convince them to make the tank more realistic. According to reports, the documents were similar to a tank user manual. Although they were not classified, the Ministry of Defense still had a say in the matter. They advised the user that the documents were not intended for public distribution. It was also a violation of UK law and could result in up to 14 years imprisonment. The moderators eventually removed the thread and locked it.
This context makes it easy to understand why a defense contractor might be suspicious of a War Thunder player joining their ranks. It's hard to believe that people would go to prison to settle a dispute. War Thunder seems to have a dedicated audience of hardware lovers. is a dedicated.
